She's Ours!

Well, we finally did it!  We adopted our little Casita on Tuesday and she's now all ours!  It almost feels like having a new family member!  Yes; we're being absurd, but we were both so excited we hardly slept the night before picking her up in Rice, Texas.

She' all ours!

The folks at the factory were absolutely wonderful and they spent a good 3 hours, plus, going over the trailer with us and describing how everything works, from the black water, grey water and fresh water systems to the refrigerator, stove and swaybar.  It was all new to us, since we'd never owned a "real" trailer before (just a tent trailer) so we were a little overwhelmed with all of the new instructions.  But we're gradually trying it all out now and are starting to put the whole puzzle together.  We're sure we'll feel much more comfortable after a week or so of practice and after we make a few mistakes.

Ready for lunch
We're really pleased, because, even though she's tiny (only 17 feet long and under 3000 pounds), the layout and the features are very well planned out and they work well for two adults.  Even with all of the stuff we brought, there is plenty of cabinet space for what we really need and the excess (like tools, camp chairs, an outside table and a generator) are being stored in the back of the truck.

Interior packed up and ready to travel

Yesterday afternoon we spent packing her up and this morning (Wednesday), we headed out for northwestern Texas with her in tow - like two proud parents showing off their new child

Tonight, we're camping in Copper Breaks State Park, which is just south of Hwy 287 and the town of Quanah, TX.  The park is known for its Texas Longhorn herd and the history museum here provides information about the interactions between the early frontier settlers and Comanches. It''s very quiet here (there are only 3 other families) and we've been hearing the coyotes since dusk - yes!  This is what touring the West is all about!  We're planning to take an early morning hike tomorrow before we leave for Palo Duro Canyon near Amarillo.  Maybe we'll even find some tracks of a Collared Piccary (javelina) or Bobcat.

Our new rig!

  1. Congrat's on your new baby! She (it's a she right?) matches the color of the truck. We can't wait to hear about those camping experiences now and include some photos of the Casita style meals. Ok well I guess it's Happy Easter to you love birds, now one Casita is enough.

    1. It is a "she" and we are just now beginning to enjoy the camping experience. We'll add more photos as soon as our internet is consistent. She is really cozy and cute inside - even when the temps drop to below 40 degrees. Ernie's figuring out the "waste dump" process this morning and we're cleaning out the fresh water tanks so that we can go into the back country the next few days. Happy Easter to you two as well!

  2. Well, your trailer home for 6 months looks fine. You'll have many memorable adventures before returning to Dutch Flat. Michael

    1. Thanks, Michael. We are so excited and are having so much fun! She's small, but we are quickly discovering how cleverly she is put together and that we just need to figure out all the tricks in order to maximize everything.
