Eat yer heart out - Lucy!

Last night, we camped in a little 50's retro-style RV park (Enchanted Trails) on old "Route 66" just outside of Albuquerque.

Local RV "expert" and greeter

We had two goals - to learn the "dump black and grey water" process where we had access to "expert" RV'ers and to  clean our fresh water tank with Chlorox (we needed to do this before we started dry camping).  We also had an opportunity to meet and have dinner with the parents of one of Val's best friends, Katherine, which was our primary reason for stopping in Albuquerque.  Such is the joy of new retirees - that you can simply dither away a day on trivial tasks and relax while doing them all.  We also had a bonus treat -  easy access to reasonably-priced laundry facilities. Such is the joy of the mundane.

Well, we were successful at accomplishing all of our goals and the dinner with Katherine's parents was wonderful.  They have lived in the Albuquerque area since their children were young and their knowledge of the local Native American cultures (the Comanches, the Hopi, the Zuni, the Apache, the Utes, etc.), their associated histories, and their art was extensive. These are extraordinary people doing exciting things with their lives.

Here are some photos of the vintage RV's parked at this RV site. (They are for rent for tourists in search of a unique "overnight experience.")

A 1950 Hudson Commodore "Evelyn" with a 1954 Vakashunette

MJ - does this look familiar?  A 1963 Winnebago "Dot"

Lucy would like this one - a 1956 Yellowston "Geneva"
Tomorrow morning (Monday 4/21), we plan to leave early for Santa Fe and Bandelier National Monument (for three days) and then we'll head over to spend the end of the week and weekend at the Chaco Culture National Park. We'll very likely be incommunicado for the remainder of the week, so for any of you out there that might also be traveling...

  2. Sounds like you're having too much fun. Watch those tire pressures. My trailer takes 50 lbs. And the Expedition 45. That is until you drive into Chaco; then a little less to atop the awful bumps in their road. I can see why those Indians preferred a $10 horse. Happy trails.

    1. Good point! We'll be more careful to keep a watch out for the tire pressures so that our ride will be a little more comfortable and safe. Thanks for the advice!

    1. Unfortunately, we didn't see your comments until after we visited Chaco, but we'll be very careful in the future. The road there was really rough...things in the trailer were bumped around quite a bit. But it was such a great place to visit. I'll be adding more about our trip ;there in a day or two.

  4. Hi Nancy, We're back from AZ and are in the process of selling our 35' Cameo by Carriage 5th wheel, since purchasing a small park model home in our winter RV resort in AZ after 43 years of RVing... It's fun to follow along with you as you visit many places we have visited over the years and some we missed. I'll continue to follow you...great stories and photos. Your hiking buddy from home, Nancy H
